Blowing out the candles
on another birthday cake
Old enough to look back and laugh at my mistakes
Young enough to look at the future and like what I see
My best days are ahead of me

Life hasn't always been a party
but mostly it's been good
There's only one or two things that I'd change if I could
I dont get lost in the past or get stuck in some sad memory yah
My best days are ahead of me

Age is nothing but a number
Sometimes I have to wonder
What does it really mean
But heeeey im still putting it together
I keep getting better
if I keep getting better
I can be whatever I want to be
My best days are ahead of me

Age is nothing but a number
Sometimes I have to wonder
What does it really mean
But heeeey im still putting it together
I keep getting better
if I keep getting better
I can be whatever I want to be
My best days are ahead of me

I've got sunsets to witness
dreams to dance with
beaches to walk on
and lovers to kiss
there's a whole lot of world out there
that I can't wait to see
My best days are ahead of me
My best days are ahead of me

They say I drive real fast
Say I like to push the limit everyday I'm livin' like it was my last
They say I'm proud of my scars
Each ones got a story got guts and glory down to an art
Say I know what it's like to see life flash before my eyes

Like that's a bad thing
I don't know about you
But I was put here to live and love
So what if I don't do it like everybody else does
They say I'm out on the edge
I'm to willing to risk every bone every breath
They say all I am is a crazy dream
Like that's a bad thing

So my hearts been broke
So I keep on fallin it's nothin but all in when I let go
I wear it on my sleeve
They call me a fool
Cause I still believe

Like that's a bad thing
I don't know about you
But I was put here to live and love
So what if I don't do it like everybody else does
They say I'm out on the edge
I'm to willing to risk every bone every breath
They say all I am is a crazy dream
Like that's a bad thing

I don't know about you
But I was put here to live and love
So what if I don't do it like everybody else does
They say I'm out on the edge
I'm to willing to risk every bone every breath
They say all I am is a crazy dream
Is a crazy dream
Like that's a bad thing
Like that's a bad thing

I've been lookin for a light at then end of this tunnel
I've been searchin for a sign to lead me home
To mend the endless nights of sorrow
But on the other side of this I know that my heart will live

Never saw a man walk on water
Never met a man who walked on water
But I still believe

I don't understand many things
Like the miracle in love and all my dreams
But I still believe

And the more I live my life; the less that I question
All the things I just can't see right in front of my eyes
So I take that leap of faith and learn a few lessons
Time will show me this what you give is what you get

Never saw a man walk on water
Never met a man who walked on water
But I still believe

I don't know the answer to my prayers;
But I keep kneeling down like someone's there
Cause I still believe

Yeah I guess I could give up
There are days I wanna run away from everything
But what good would that do for me yeah
Ohh ohh ohh ohh I I I still believe

Never saw a man walk on water
Never met a man who walked on water
Oohhh but I still believe
Never saw a man walk on water
Never met a man who walked on water
But I still believe yes I do

I don't really know what tomorrow will bring
But I'm open to all possibilities
Cause I still believe

Never saw a man walk on water
Never met a man who walked on water
But I still believe

I don't really know what tomorrow will bring
But I'm open to all possibilities
But I but I believe

Never saw a man never saw a man never saw a man
Who walked on water
Never saw a man never saw a man never saw a man
Ohhhh but I but I but I believe it
But I but I but I believe
But I but I but I believe
Yeaahhh

Looking down out of this little round window
On silver wings at 20,000 feet
At lakes and streams and fields of green
I tend to think the most peculiar things

Ribbons of highways, side roads, byways
People going all ways, always in a hurry
Gotta get there but just where from up here
I'm not sure where it's all going
And what it all means but

Sometimes I think it's such a simple thing
I close my eyes and I realize
All I really need is the love I have
And the love I have to give
Anything else there is, is insignificant
In this tiny life

Wheels hit the runway, Mondays run into Mondays
Some days are better than some days
Can't see the sky, skyscraper's too high
Thirty-second daydream at another red light

I'm back in my hometown, on roads that we rode down
But those sights and sounds are just yesterdays now
There's deadlines, stress lines, too much on my mind
I'm getting it all, but what's it all for?

It's the love we make, it's the dreams we share
The friends we find in our short time here
It's knowing God's grace, the touch of a hand
Holding a baby, calling mom and dad

It's making the most of the moments we have
And getting to live long enough to look back
On the years, the sweet tears of joy and laughter
That's all that really matters
In this tiny life, such a tiny life

Sometimes I think it's such a simple thing
I close my eyes and I realize
All I really need is the love I have
And the love I have to give
Anything else there is, is insignificant
In this tiny life

Well, I gotta get away
Just skip town with the top down
And drive all night
High time that I kick back and lose track
And get out of sight

Yeah, I'm caught in a state of emergency
I'm goin' down if I stay
Gotta get away

Feels like my head's in a vice
The big man standing there screamin'
This pressure, breakin' my mind
I'm done, I'm out, let me get back to
What this life is about

Well, I gotta get away
Just skip town with the top down
And drive all night
High time that I kick back and lose track
And get out of sight

Yeah, I'm caught in a state of emergency
I'm goin' down if I stay
Gotta get away

Yeah, gonna find me a sunset
And a cold drink on the beach somewhere
Get lost in a warm breeze with a sweet thing
Just get me there

I'm gone, no doubt
Gotta get back to
What this whole thing's about

Well, I gotta get away
Just skip town with the top down
And drive all night
High time that I kick back and lose track
And get out of sight

Yeah, I'm caught in a state of emergency
I'm goin' down if I stay
Gotta get away

Call me a missin' person
I really like the sound of that
Believe me I'm never comin' back
Oh, get away

Yeah, get away
Skip town, gonna drive all night
Kick back, and lose track, get outta sight
Yeah, I'm caught in a state of emergency
I'm goin' down if I stay

It's been eighteen months and fourteen days Bobby can't get em a job
Repo mans gonna take his van
Bobby's given up on god
He needs a hand up and not a hand out
But hey everybody's gotta suffer
Don't worry Don't worry it's only my brother
la da da da da yeah

So where is that poverty line I never really seen it
Look around I'm doin fine I'm not really sure I believe it
On the other side of town schools are fallin' down but me I'm ridin' in style
Don't worry don't worry it's only a child
There's a homeless woman with a shopping cart living on the street
Lord knows she can't come in here where the pretty people meet
And were all dressed in our Sunday best
And she smiles when she sees us
Don't worry it's only Jesus la da da da da yeah

There's a face in the mirror of a man that I can be
Lord won't you open my eyes
Won't you help me see
A hungry child needs more then a piece of bread
Brother needs a job to get ahead
And the homeless need a place to lay their head
And as much as I've been given I could never give enough
Don't worry it's only love la da da da da yeah

It's only love
It's only love

Gonna make it together
Walkin' hand in hand
Fallin' down to our knees is where we'll make our stand
You can never give it all away
You can never get enough
Don't worry don't worry don't worry
It's only love

When your lonely cold and empty
Only one thing to fill you up
And it's only and it's only and it's only
It's only love
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah

Sunday morning, all dressed for church
Took my buddy, rode a shortcut
Showed up all covered in dirt
Daddy took one look
'Bout to blow his top
But grandma said, "It'll come out in the wash."

Gotta get a little life on ya!
Ain't always pretty,
Gonna get a little dirty

Gotta get a little life on ya!
On ya! On ya!
Gotta get a little life on ya!

About five years later
I can't remember her name
I never saw it coming
But man, I remember my first heartbreak
Grandma smiling
With that bit of a wrinkled face
Said, "You ain't seen nothing yet,
That girl was just a taste"

Gotta get a little life on ya!
Ain't always pretty,
Gonna get a little dirty

Gotta get a little life on ya!
On ya! On ya!
Gotta get a little life on ya!
Yeah

Girl, do you remember?
When we first met
Life hadn't had a chance
to throw all it had at us yet
And that was ten years later
And you can do the math
But it all adds up to everything
That grandma said way back

Gotta get a little life on ya!
Gotta get a little life on ya!
Gotta go a little further
Gotta get a little deeper
It gets a little sweeter
When you get a little on ya!

Gotta get a little life on ya!
Ain't always pretty,
Gonna get a little dirty

Gotta get a little life on ya!
On ya! On ya!
On ya!
Yeah, yeah

Gotta get a little life on ya!
Little life on ya, yeah

You got to live a little
Breathe harder
Love stronger, yeah

You got to live harder
Love stronger, yeah

. . .

Love, I don't think so
I'd have to be a fool to go down that road
Aw, but look at you, look at you, look at you
I'd be crazy not to

I know, it makes no sense
Why would I jump off a perfectly good cliff
Aw, but look at you, look at you, look at you
I'd be crazy not to

My best bet is turn around and run
And not get all caught up in your love
My friends say I'm crazy if I do
Aw, but look at you, look at you, look at you
Oh, I'd be crazy not to

My heart, is telling me stay
Like maybe I should take a chance and have faith
Aw, and look at you, look at you, look at you
Baby, I'd be crazy not to

My best bet is turn around and run
And not get all caught up in your love
My friends say I'm crazy if I do
Aw, but look at you, look at you, look at you
Oh, I'd be crazy not to, baby, I'd be crazy not to

I know if I kiss you
It's only gonna lead to
More and more, and more, and more

So my best bet is turn around and run
And not get all caught up in your love
My friends say I'm crazy if I do
Aw, but look at you, look at you, look at you
Yeah, look at you, look at you, look at you
I'd be crazy not to, crazy not to

Joker Johnny
Was a lie teller
Oh, 'cause he thought somebody
Might like him better

So he built it up and built it up
'Til it all fell down
But he never thought the bitter truth
Was gonna find him out

And he did it all
To impress someone else
When all he really had to do
Was stop and be himself

Oh, now everybody
Wants to be somebody
Oh, yes it's true
No telling what
Some people will do

Well, now nobody
Wants to be a nobody
'Cause it's a far more bitter fame
To go through this life
Carryin' that weight

When they shoot somebody
For the clothes they wear
Then they'll advertise it
Like it's ordinary

They got territory
And so they stand their ground
But what they don't know is
What comes around
Comes right back around

What they really wanted
Is to be accepted
What you'll find out in the end
Is the street is self-correcting

Oh, yeah everybody
Wants to be somebody
Oh, yes it's true
No telling what
Some people will do

Well, now nobody
Wants to be a nobody
'Cause it's a far more bitter fame
To go through this life
Carryin' that weight

Far more worse than dying
Is living with a soul
That's laden with the consequence
Of all the happiness you stole

Sometimes a guilty conscience
And carrying the pain
Is harder than a bullet to the brain

Everybody
Wants to be a somebody
Oh, yes it's true
No telling what
Some people will do

Oh, now nobody
Wants to be a nobody
It's a far more bitter fame

Everybody
Wants to be somebody
Oh, yes it's true
No telling what
Some people will do

Well, now nobody
Wants to be a nobody
To go through this life
Carryin' that weight

. . .

It changes everything you've been
And all that's left to be
Is empty, lonely, broken, hopin'
I'm supposed to be strong
I'm supposed to find a way to carry on

I don't wanna feel better
I don't wanna not remember
I will always see your face
In the shadows of this haunted place
I will laugh
I will cry
Shake my fist at the sky
But I will not say goodbye

They keep saying time will heal
But the pain just gets more real
The sun comes up each day
Finds me waiting, fading, hating, praying
If I can keep on holding on
Maybe I can keep my heart from knowing that you're gone

Cause I don't wanna feel better
I don't wanna not remember
I will always see your face
In the shadows of this haunted place
I will laugh
I will cry
Shake my fist at the sky
But I will not say goodbye

I will curse
I will pray
I'll relive everyday
I will shelter the blame
I'll shout out your name

I will laugh
I will cry
Shake my fist at the sky
But I will not say
Will not say goodbye
I will not say goodbye
Will not say ooooohhhhh
