Rolling Stones Open Up About Drugs Past

18 февраля 2008 года
Rolling Stones Open Up About Drugs PastMembers of the Rolling Stones have spoken about their drugs past, as well as offering advice to current stars battling addiction.

“When we were experimenting with drugs, little was known about the effects,” warned the band’s frontman, Mick Jagger.

Jagger, speaking at the premiere of the band’s new film, also explained that there were no rehab centres in their “time”, and that if there were, he “did not know about them.”

Guitarist Keith Richards meanwhile, sent out a warning for Amy Winehouse, who left rehab last week following an attempt to beat her drug problems.

“She should get her act together,” he said, adding that if she didn’t she would suffer the same appearance problems as him.

Responding to Jagger and Richards’ comments, Andrew Oldham, the groups manager in the 1960s, told the Times: “The Stones had their fun and people might think this is rich coming from them.

“But we were lucky in the Sixties and we studied what we were doing and we took our drugs incrementally, starting with the harmless stuff. When it interfered with work, we said goodbye.

“If Keith was on Sunday Night at the London Palladium and had a spliff, who knew? But now if you are a pop star you live your success and your experimentation in public.”
