A spokesperson for Stealers Wheel legend Gerry Rafferty has confirmed that the singer is not missing despite reports that no one had seen him since August 2008.

The initial reports of his disappearance came after his Stealers Wheel bandmate Tony Williams had said that he and Rafferty's family were worried about his wellbeing.

He went on to say that the singer hadn't been in contact with them since his discharged himself from a London hospital on August 1 last year.

In the past Rafferty has had problems with alcohol and was in hospital being treated for liver problems.

Speaking to The Independent today, Paul Charles said: "I spoke to him two weeks ago and he's fine. There's no album, there's no tour, so he's not coming out in public."

According to The Guardian, Rafferty is currently being cared for by a friend in the South of England after going on a “rampage” through a London hotel room last year before he checked himself out of St Thomas' hospital.
